Slewins Lane house is a two-storey, detached property in Hornchurch-Essex. The proposed approach for this house is to renovate throughout with a wrap-around extension type, a part-single part-double storey, and an outbuilding at the back of the garden.

In doing so, the property can open up by making a side extension to the site of the property and the entrance, where the ground floor side extension will create a bedroom and en suite for the owner's parents. The rear ground floor extension is for a new kitchen and more space to entertain. The first-floor addition will allow reconfiguration of the existing layout and add extra needed space.

The new extension of the property is where the project allowed me to use my knowledge of working within context. These newly built sections of the house add needed space to create an extra living space with fluid circulations and interconnected space. The existing kitchen has been replaced with a semi-open space with a view into the kitchen and garden through the floor-to-ceiling window. A new light-filled kitchen is located in the new rear part of the extension, which will become the core of family life.

Volumetrically, the extension to the ground and first floor are two distinct volumes. The volumes are distinctive, although taking reference from the original building.
